yeah, I kind of am. I just hate it when people try to be a a part of a culture that they don’t know much about. though it’s flattering and all when people do it, to some it can really hurt, because not only do they feel that you are mocking their lifestyle, but you are also trying to be something that you’re not. If you wanna use phrases or words in another language that you speak or you are practicing a religion of a culture that you have studied and have alot of background knowledge on, then in my opinion that’s perfectly fine. But when people are using a certain culture as a excuse all the time to use their language in weird ways they choose just to “become closer” to those of that culture or descent, then I just find that extremely distasteful.
Personally I believe that everyone should love where they come from and their background, but if you want to walk your own path I also totally support that too, but do your research and study it before you try it.
Also, in the first paragraph when I said that people “try” to act like someone from a certain ethnicity or culture, I mean things like the voicemail used in the beginning of Drake’s song “How About Now”, at the start you hear a young woman leaving an angry voice mail on his phone saying how he “just dashed her away like a cyattie”. In places like Toronto and such Jamaican slang like “Cyattie”, “Bredren”, “Ting”, and other words/short forms of Jamaica’s native language Patois is now being used by both Jamaican’s and non-Jamaicans. To tell the truth I sometimes get upset about it, because even though these words are being used alot now, people are using them for the wrong meanings and are just throwing them around anywhere. Now tell me, how would you feel if your native language or lifestyle was being used by people who may not even understand the context of these words (or the language) and how they should be used?
Plus, about that girl. I believe that she fetishizes Korea, Japan and kpop way too much. Have you seen what she tags her photos on instagram with?? Kawaii? Asian?? Doll? Tokyo? MANGA?! KOREAN? KOREANGIRL?!? JAPANESE?!?!GYARU?! ULLZANG?! AEGYO for god’s sake, fucking aEGYO! I know I shouldn’t be judging people (because I’m in no place to do that) but, fetishizing someone else’s reality is not cool, because she is not Korean nor Japanese, and she neither lives in Seoul nor Japan, and I can most definitely guess that her name is not Hye Seon. If she wants to live there sometime in her life that’s fine, and if she is really inspired by the fashion lifestyle and music then that’s fine also, but she needs to stop acting like someone or something that’s she’s truly not. Do you know how many females would love to be beyonce? but they know they never will be, and that’s just life.
Many people are offended by her, I don’t blame them, and please don’t send me messages like “she doesn’t know better.” You should know the line that you’re crossing once people start getting offended, but I’m also not condoning anyone to send her hate.
